Supply Chain Integration Update

GMC's Supply Chain Integration clients continue to recognise system, process efficiencies and financial gains by focusing on key touch points between maintenance and Supply Chain.

GMC established a Supply Chain Integration capability early in 2008 in response to the growing demand for business system and process efficiencies between maintenance and Supply Chain. Since then, GMC has been engaged by Rio Tinto Iron Ore to identify and address maintenance and Supply Chain integration improvements at their Pilbara operations in Western Australia.

Recently, GMC was engaged by De Beers to identify and deliver Supply Chain Integration improvements at their Snap Lake and Victor Mines in Canada.

At the Victor Mine in northern Ontario, GMC's Supply Chain Integration programme is building on substantial gains already delivered to the site through GMC's maintenance activities. GMC has assisted Victor Mine's Supply Chain personnel to improve their SAP transactional and functional skills while delivering business process and system improvements following SAP implementation. GMC is now working with the site to develop a supply improvement programme which will see delivery of financial gains, as well as further business and system improvements and efficiencies to support site maintenance. GMC also supported Victor Mine through their recent annual stocktake.

At the Snap Lake Mine in the Northwest Territories, the GMC Supply Chain Integration team has identified improvements and delivered short-term business system and process enhancements while supporting the site through their first full stocktake. As an independent entity, GMC oversaw and verified integrity of the stocktake in preparation for the Snap Lake's annual audit.

St Barbara’s Parish School Fundraiser

GMC was proud to be involved with the St Barbara's Parish School (Roxby Downs, The township supporting Olympic Dam Mine Site) for their first fundraising fete. The event was held to raise enough money to establish a perimeter fence to protect the children and the school grounds.

We are pleased to pass on the news that the St Barbara's Parish School Fundraiser was a great success. School Principal, Bernadette Lacey, said  "The support of the business community was so positive and we wish to acknowledge the hard work Global Maintenance Consulting Pty Ltd has done in its own right to be able to offer our school such a generous sponsorship ... On behalf of the students, parents and staff of St Barbara's Parish School I would like to again send our sincerest thanks".

Sustainable GMC Growth Update

In support of this year's trend, GMC has undergone further expansion amongst our existing clients after signing 10 new consultants for worldwide placements.

HR Manager Mark O'Donnell has said the quality of applicants coming through is of an exceptional level, well suited to our existing teams, and we have been able to quickly match the highly skilled consultants to existing teams in Singapore, Canada, and Australia.

GMC Wins 457 Visa Sponsorship

After months of hard work GMC Australia has received approval from the Department of Immigration to become a Standard Business Sponsor for the 457 Working Visa, allowing us to sponsor non Australian residents to work for GMC Australia for a period of up to 2 years.

This approval further enhances the GMC Groups ability to provide our mobile workforce a variety of opportunities all around the world. GMC is now experienced in successfully obtaining working visas for a variety of countries around the world, with our new ability to deliver non Australian residents into our home market being the missing piece of the puzzle.

In typical GMC fashion no time has been wasted with our first successful 457 application and approval having already taken place seeing a new team member soon to relocate from South Africa to the sunny surrounds of Perth.

If you, or someone you know, is interested in pursuing work opportunities in Australia in light our new Sponsorship feel free to contact HR Manager - Mark O'Donnell on cv@globalmaintenance.com.au or on +61 (0) 398364481.

Kennecott Utah Copper

GMC have commenced work at Kennecott Utah Copper, placing Senior GMC Consultant Allan Wynne on the ground. The first assignment is to assist in the embedding activities for Kennecott Utah Copper, and to help manage critical tasks for their Manage Physical Assets team lead. This includes assisting KUCC planners in their piece of the Rio Tinto integrated planning solution.

GMC have managed to move the Zero Based Budgeting process from a Data Administration task to a function of the Maintenance Planners at most of the sites. Significant work has been done over the past few months to utilise Task Lists to capture maintenance acitivty with an intial focus on the high cost or high frequency tasks.

There is a sense of accomplishment in many areas as the planning portion of the Zero Based Budget is calculated and the figures are much closer to the 80% Planned and 20% Allocated target (Up from a <20% Planned last year).

De Beers Victor Mine Update

Based on the success of the initial stage of the GMC Canada Asset Mangaement Improvement Program at De Beers Victor Mine (Canada), GMC has been invited to assist with the maintenance - supply chain integration tasks.

The initial scope of the tasks focuses on effective use of SAP Materials Management functionality and one-on-one coaching of the supply chain employees. The scope will also involve the critical spares review, equipment warranty management, repairable spares management and other maintenance and Supply Chain Integration tasks, which will add immediate benefits to the Victor Mine performance.

GMC Begins Work At De Beers Diamond Mine

GMC Canada were recently engaged by De Beers Canada to deliver a maintenance improvement program at Ontario's first diamond mine: Victor Mine.  The initial program will be approximately six months.

The program commenced with a detailed operations and requirements review at the corporate office and the mine, led by Irek Stawiczny and Nick Cecil. The review focus was to gain a detailed knowledge of the culture, existing processes and systems utilisation in the context of the overall mine business plan and the De Beers Canada Asset Management Strategy.

The High Level Scope of the GMC program is best summarised as: People Alignment - ‘Willing and able people sharing common vision'; Reliability Improvements - ‘Eliminating and preventing failures'; Maintenance Business Process Improvements - ‘Disciplined processes reflecting business needs'; SAP System Improvements - ‘Effective tools to support Victor Mine business processes'; Facilitate Sharing of learnings, processes and technical solutions across both De Beers Canada mines.

The Program is being managed by utilising the GMC Canada and GMC USA resources, and the approach is based on the successful programs of similar nature delivered in the region by GMC's North American operations.

Supply Chain Integration Enters Western Australia

GMC recently commenced a supply chain improvement program with a significant resources client in Western Australia. GMC formally expanded its services to incorporate Supply Chain Integration with Asset Management driven initiatives in April 2008.

The consultancy is assisting our client to identify and implement improvements within the Plan-to-Pay process, specifically by reviewing material master data processes, critical spare holdings and developing strategies to improve inventory availability to Asset Managers.

The engagement is being sponsored by the client's maintenance department, who understand the benefits that upstream Supply Chain efficiencies can deliver to Maintenance and Supply specifically by focusing on key touch points between the disciplines. A number of key strategies have been developed, and helping our clients to realise the benefits from full exposure to all processes within the Asset Management Life Cycle differentiates GMC from our competitors.

GMC Takes on Toronto

The GMC Board officially approved further expansion in Canada.
